Support the Rally for Democratic Change in Iran

As co-chairs of the Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus we support the January 19th rally in Washington, DC for a democratic change in Iran.

We are disturbed by the gross human rights violations committed by the government of Iran. The Iranian regime’s human rights record was condemned for the  52nd time by the United Nations in December 2005. Iran’s new President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continues to suppress ethnic and religious minorities. Political activists and reporters have been arrested, imprisoned, tortured and executed in Iranian Kurdistan as well as Khuzistan.

Furthermore, we are extremely concerned by Iran’s defiance of the international community in its pursuit of developing a nuclear weapons program. This endangers the stability of the region and the world. We believe a possible alternative to the current government can be achieved through supporting the people of Iran and the Iranian resistance.

We extend our solidarity to you and to the Iranian people and their defiance against tyranny.

Today, mullahs rule of terror and tyranny in Iran poses a clear and present threat first and foremost to millions of Iranians as well as to security and safety of other nations. This threat is multi-pronged, multi-faceted and omnipresent and therefore demands an urgent united campaign in several fronts to defuse it...more

Global Threat

Iran has by all standards, the worst human rights record of any country in the world today. In recent months, an already radical regime in Tehran has become more radical with Ahmadinejad and his policy of terror in Iraq, race for nuclear arms and suppression at home. United States has declared his regime as the world's most active state sponsor of terrorism. Armed with deadly missiles, Ahmadinejad’s regime is capable of striking parts of Europe and American forces in the Middle East. International community believes that a nuclear-armed Iran presents a threat to Middle East stability and world peace...more

Political Solution

There is a political solution. Leaders of Iran's main opposition group is working with international partners to ensure that the policy for change in Iran is not based on a need for foreign war or appeasement. Rather, an urgent policy is needed to support the  indigenous voice for regime change in Iran...more
